At Markland Hill, we follow a broad and balanced curriculum fulfilling the requirements of the Education Reform Act (1988) which 'promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society, and prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.'
In the Early Years (reception/ foundation stage) we plan from the Early Years Foundation Stage framework using the Development Matters document. The learning is then translated into themes and topics throughout the year.
We follow the New National Curriculum for England in Key Stages 1 and 2 and embed this within topics and themes across the school. English and Maths are taught daily and these lessons are taught discretely then further developed through other curriculum subjects in topics. Our termly curriculum overviews for each key stage can be found in the drop down menu above.
At Markland Hill we adapt the way in which we approach learning and teaching so that our curriculum is current, exciting and meets the needs of all of our leaners and we frequently evaluate the effectiveness of our curriculum.
Please also see the drop down menu above for our Markland Hill overviews for each year group.
